The PP645 Site was redesigned and became the Beacon Villa Site to specially welcome children from Early Childhood Education.
The greatest challenge was to keep a warm and inviting atmosphere for the children who were used to the Berlioz Site. So that the children could move easily and thus develop autonomy, the surface of the main floor was leveled, and the layout was designed to ease the access to the various educational areas. Furthermore, ramps, walkways and elevators were built aiming at not only facilitating mobility, but also promoting interaction among children.
The playgrounds were created to address children’s curiosity and to help develop exploration, discovery, and skills. Tarzan’s House, the sand pit, the tunnel, and the climbing ramp are some of these playing structures.
Thinking about the school values regarding nature, Beacon Villa is a place where students can eat fruits straight from the tree, play in mud puddles with their wellies, walk barefoot in sensorial paths, discover sounds that Bamboo makes, take part in the planting of the guava tree, have the opportunity to interact with animals such as the turtle and the rabbit, and much more. In addition, they foster the children’s responsibility to take care of plants inside the classrooms.
A new sound system was also installed, which is used to play music at entrance and dismissal times, providing moments of ease and tranquility. With regard to the classrooms, the Extended Day and Optional Activities now occupy a whole floor, including the nap room, cooking and multipurpose rooms, in space that is both ample and reserved .
Beacon’s essence and identity is present as always, and the school-family partnership is highly valued by all the staff. Therefore, when the gates are opened at the Villa, parents pick their children up and encounter a welcoming atmosphere.
