The G6 (6 years old) teacher, Luciana Bernardo, launched her first children’s book entitled “The discovery of the feet”. This is her first illustrated literature project.
Luciana, who has always shown a very sharp artistic side, had the idea and desire to write a book and illustrate it. To develop and improve her technique in drawing feet, she decided to participate in a project at Ateliê Binah with the illustrator Fernando Vilela, whose theme was precisely “feet”. Through her sketches, Luciana could see the potential in her drawings and decided that this would be her first work to be released.
The book tells the story of Maria, a girl who owned and loved shoes. She then decides to play barefoot for the first time in her life. This experience will allow the protagonist to discover a new world of sensations and feelings. A story about simplicity, kindness, empathy, and social relationships.
Luciana intends, through her work, to portray the consumerist side of society, showing the excessive use of many objects unnecessarily. The name “The Discovery of the Feet” appropriates both meanings of the word: taking off one’s shoes and going barefoot, and, likewise, the discovery, the revelation of the senses.
After some time working on the book, the teacher and artist looked for a professional illustrator to guide her to develop the drawings in the best possible way and get the project off the paper. After Juliana Rabelo’s adjustments and guidance, Luciana took a doll filled with her ideas to Flamingo publishing house. The project was approved, thus allowing her to see her ideas come to life.
The students of G5 and G6 (5 and 6 years old) had the opportunity to hear the story told by the author herself.
The book launch was attended by friends and students who honored the teacher. The families who were present also responded very positively, as they could feel the impact the author had on the children as an inspiration for future writers.
Luciana has other projects in progress, all inserted in reflections that raise ecological concern and awareness, present in the writer’s life since her childhood. She understands that addressing themes such as the correct disposal of waste, excessive consumption, and environmental issues is fundamental for the awareness of a more sustainable world from an early age.
