Every semester, Inteli (Institute of Technology and Leadership) publishes an open call for companies, NGOs, and governmental institutions to report on their daily problems, which can be discussed and solved by its students. These partners send initiatives from which fourteen are selected and classified according to the four proposed modules: Game, Web Application, Predictive Model, and IoT (Internet of Things), the latter being the theme proposed by Beacon.
The school challenged the students to possible resolutions regarding the lost objects in the campus unit. The challenge was accepted and began to be addressed and discussed through collaborative work between the various sectors of the school and the students of the college. With a class of about 40 students, the kick-off of the project, which included a presentation by both parties, took place in October, and, from then on, over the course of eleven weeks, possible solutions to the problem were discussed and elaborated. In December, the long-awaited presentation of the prototypes took place, marking the end of the project.
Involving not only the IT team but also the financial and operational teams, the students developed several experiments, including software and a tracking tag. In a constant dialogue with the school’s sectors, the experience was enriching for both parties. The students had the opportunity to deal with a real problem in an environment outside the classroom, and the Beacon team could learn from the innovative ideas coming from an academic environment. There is also the possibility that these college students will be invited to an internship program at the school.
Beacon students interested in I.T. also had the opportunity to participate in one of the meetings, improving their knowledge about the development process of an IoT project.
