International Day of Planet Earth

In 2024, the International Day of Planet Earth was celebrated on April 22nd, with a prominent theme focusing on “Food Waste,” which relates to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 2 – Zero Hunger and Sustainable Agriculture.

With the aim of discussing and reflecting on our relationship with the planet, the week of April 22nd to 26th featured a series of activities at Beacon to promote awareness, environmental preservation, and highlight the importance of sustainability, one of the school’s values.

In this regard, in addition to a campaign aimed at reducing food waste during lunch hours at the school, the actions aimed to encourage the practice of home composting through the display of our educational compost bin, a composting workshop with distribution of biofertilizer, and a food drive in partnership with BCA – Beacon Community in Action – a group of volunteer families that collaborates with the school for the benefit of the school and local community, to raise awareness about hunger and food insecurity.

We are committed to educating citizens who are aware of their obligations to the world in all its dimensions: environmental, economic, social, and cultural. We empower our students and staff to lead initiatives for environmental preservation, renewable resource management, promotion of education, and improvement of living conditions in their communities.
