Beacon encourages sports practice and dedicates, annually, one week to celebrate it: the Sports Week. 1st to 7th grade students (Y1 to Y7) took part in six mixed teams, some of them merging classes from the same grade level. In the weeks preceding the event, students got involved in preparatory activities in the Physical Education classes and also in the classroom, such as the team flags production.
Students were invited to practice activities related to the Units of Inquiry, with games based on the motor and cognitive skills studied in class. Besides being able to promote popular games like “dodgeball” and “capture the flag”, the event presented the “volcano” and “castle”, added to the repertoire.
The “tchoukball”, created and developed to be a sport with no injuries, as well as the “ultimate Frisbee”, one of the only sports in the world that has no judges, simply relying on the ethical conduct of the athletes, were also practiced.
One of the Beacon’s core values is presented in the Sports Week: social interaction. The students celebrated fair play with joy, acquired more autonomy and learned how to win and to lose.
In a friendly celebration, the Sports Week came to an end with a medal ceremony in the Gym at the Campus, with parents involved.
Furthermore, in partnership with the My Yoga Studio, Beacon invited more than 50 participants, among parents and students, to experience the benefits of Yoga and Mindfulness exercises.
