Beacon’s Educational Technology coordinator, Zilda Kessel, was invited to share innovative experiences in the lecture “The Collective Construction of a Technology and Innovation Curriculum: Multiple Voices, Multiple Knowledge”. The talk took place in the Innovation Village, a new space of the 2019 Bett Educar edition, which is dedicated to innovative experiences, and initiatives of Education, Creativity and Technology, made by educators for educators.
Zilda used three examples of innovative situations regarding the use of technology at Beacon. The first one was related to the writing process of students’ reports. The proposal and use of the new program led educators to a mindset change through self-regulation and collaborative work.
The second one was the construction of Beacon’s Educational Technology curriculum from in-house experience. In the same way that we recognize investigation as a vital part of the knowledge construction process, the coordinator researched and found answers with her own team, based on the demands of teachers and students. The solution was a collaborative construction, the validation of practices inside classrooms, and the hiring and professional development of a team aligned with the process.
Finally, she approached the challenge of building a “Maker Space”. It was necessary to develop a model that would fit the school’s demands and its curriculum. Thus, a search began for flexible partners and successful experiences to achieve such a goal. Eventually, we inaugurated the Design Lab, a space that emphasizes the importance of our students’ creativity and uses technology in favor of research and the investigative process.
Bett Educar is Latin America’s largest education-and-technology related event. It aims to bring people, practices, and technologies together in order to foster the development of educators. Also, it aspires to create a better future by transforming education and broadening learning possibilities for our students.
