In another action with the “Convivere Mais” consultancy, Beacon’s Professional Development Coordinator, Lais Carvalho, participated in the Live “Well-being of Educators Who Are Working in Schools”. This Live is part of a series entitled “Good Practices in a Time of Pandemic”.
We know that everyone’s mental health and well-being has been put to test during this quarantine, interfering with social and professional relationships. Several researches have shown the importance of taking care of our educational community as a whole and that, at this moment, they feel tired, exhausted, sad, euphoric, anxious, scared. It is a time when we go through many emotions and different feelings.
Concerned about this scenario, Beacon offered its teachers and staff members conversations with psychologists, schedules for practicing yoga and meditation and, more recently, the “Conversation Cycle” to express feelings, in partnership with Convivere educators. Lais participated and mediated seven conversations with Convivere that involved the entire school staff.
The “Conversation Cycle” is a pedagogical strategy, used with students, which has now been adapted to allow the expression of feelings by teachers and staff members, related to issues involving ethical coexistence, in the face of Covid-19 pandemic scenario and as a result of social distancing.
During the Live, Lais told participants how people managed to connect themselves, develop empathy, giving opportunity to speech and exercising active listening. Feelings such as anguish, sadness, anxiety, and insecurity appeared during all conversations, but we also had moments of gratitude, empathy, and generosity shared by them.
May this pandemic bring us some lessons for life, allowing us to really reflect on how we connect and interact with each other, with life and work in an ethical, respectful and generous way.
